In 1985, Japanese director and screenwriter Hayao Miyazaki founded a new animation studio. Europeans call it "Ghibli", but the Japanese themselves pronounce this word differently - "Djiburi". It was here that feature films and anime series were filmed, which became popular all over the world.

In 2001, an unusual park-museum was created at the Ghibli studio in Japan. It is interesting for children and adults who are not indifferent to animation.

What can be seen in the Ghibli Museum

First of all, the heroes of the animated films that have become hits of the anime - "Princess Mononoke", "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro". The showroom on the ground floor is dedicated to the history of hand-drawn animation, while on the ground floor there is a full-size mockup of the animation studio.

The Ghibli Museum contains sketches for the animated film by Yuri Norshtein "The Hedgehog in the Fog". The Japanese simply love this domestic cartoon!

Tourists are shown the original study of Japanese cartoonist Hayao Miyazaki. The museum has a real cinema where you can see the latest films from the Ghibli studio, there is a bookstore, a souvenir shop and a cafe. On the roof of the building there is a garden with a statue of the hero of the anime "Laputa Heavenly Castle".

Tours are conducted in Japanese only. Taking pictures inside the Ghibli Museum is strictly prohibited. Do not be upset! You will not be left without photos. Professional photographs are sold to tourists at quite divine prices.

Opening hours and ticket prices

A ticket to the Ghibli Museum costs 1,000 yen for adults, 700 yen for children between 13 and 18, 400 yen for 7-12 years old, and 100 yen for 4-6 years old.

It is not so easy to buy tickets! Go to any of the Lawson stores 2-3 days before your visit and make a purchase from the Loppi vending machine. Take someone who understands Japanese characters with you. During school holidays, we advise you to take care of your tickets 2-3 weeks in advance!

Where is the Studio Ghibli Museum

The attraction is located in the western part of Tokyo Prefecture, in the city of Mitaka. Take the subway to Mitaka Station and take the yellow bus. He will take you to the museum. Walking walk from the metro will take no more than 20 minutes.
